Gryphon Solo 2 - Joe Harris USA

During a sailing career in shorthanded and solo racing, Harris has logged over 60,000 offshore ocean miles over 30 years. His voyages include four trans-Atlantic crossings, nine Newport-Bermuda Races, five Marblehead to Halifax Races and five Bermuda 1-2 races. Harris is entered in the GOR’s solo division with his Akilaria RC2 Class40 Gryphon Solo 2




Bodacious Dream - Dave Rearick USA

Vessel Type: Class 40

With an impressive CV of short-handed sailing already logged, Dave Rearick will be a formidable force in the single-handed division of the GOR with Kiwi 40FC Class40 Bodacious Dream. Prior to the GOR, Rearick will be making an expedition circumnavigation with the yacht to highlight the deep ocean route and the environment including an education programme for schools




Dalton Yachting - Graham Dalton NZL

Vessel Type: Class 40

A veteran of two single-handed round-the-world races, Graham Dalton will be on the startline in the solo class with his Verdier Design Class40 Dalton Yachting (ex-Dasafio Cabo de Hornos; ex-Hupane). Dalton’s racing campaign will be based in Auckland, New Zealand, until Dalton Yachting is shipped to the UK in mid-summer of 2015 to compete in the GOR


Nico Budel NDL

Crew Type: Solo
Vessel Type: Class 40

Dutch sailor, Nico Budel, had a string of transatlantic and shorthanded sailing races to his credit before entering the solo division of the GOR 2008-09. During the race his Open 40 lost its keel bulb and Budel was forced to abandon the yacht. In the double-handed GOR 2011-12, the Dutch skipper dismasted at the start of Leg 2 with Class40 Sec. Hayai, but his team succeeded in completing Legs 4 and 5. Budel is back again for GOR in the solo division and is determined to complete a circumnavigation on the third attempt


Team Concise – Ned Collier-Wakefield GBR

Ned Collier-Wakefield will skipper the new Team Concise Forty 1 Design Class40 in the double-handed division. Collier-Wakefield has a vast amount of experience in racing Class40 yachts both inshore and offshore and will be putting together a crack team for the GOR.


Celox Sailing – Gottfried Poessl AUT

The Austrian team will be competing in the double-handed division skippered by Gottfried Poessl with their Akilaria Class40 Gustbuster. Celox Sailing operates a unique marine business with six departments including a sailing academy, sail loft and yacht servicing and will be entering a highly organised and competitive team


David Thomson GBR

David Thomson is one of the UK's most experienced sailors. Prior to achieving third place in the inaugural Global Ocean Race 2008-09, Thomson already had a rich sailing CV having crewed aboard the record-setting maxi-multihull Playstation; raced extensively in the highly competitive South Coast fully-crewed circuit and worked as a senior preparateur and trusted team member for numerous solo round-the-world racing campaigns. Thomson is putting together a campaign to truly represent the South Coast and Britain. Operating from his home port of Gosport, Thomson has every reason possible to realise his dream of winning a round-the-world yacht race with the GOR.


Caterham Challenge – Mike Gascoyne GBR

Mike Gascoyne, famous for his work with several Formula One racing teams and now CEO of Caterham Technology and Caterham Composites, will be at the Southampton Boat Show for the start of the round-the-world race in September 2015 with a new Akilaria RC3 Class40, Caterham Challenge, to be launched this summer
