Punta del Este, Uruguay

Situated at the northern entrance to Rio de la Plata, Punta del Este is one of South America’s most stunning resort towns. This hugely popular holiday destination is a particularly busy place during the Southern Hemisphere summer months of January and February when the coastal breezes provide a  very comfortable alternative to the oppressive heat of the inland cities of this vast continent.

Dubbed the “St. Tropez of South America” Punta del Este is chic and very stylish. Blessed with stunningly beautiful beaches Punta offers sumptuous choices for accommodation, restaurants and nightlife.

The Global Ocean Race sailors will be arriving in Punta del Este in early March 2012,just after the height of the summer season, when the weather remains fabulous but the crowds will have begun to thin – perfect conditions for them to recuperate, work on their yachts and enjoy life Uruguayan-style. Punta del Este will be the perfect reward for putting the cold, tough sailing conditions of the Southern Ocean behind them and is the perfect place to celebrate their Cape Horn rounding with friends, families and fellow racers.

The Punta del Este stopover is being arranged by the Yacht Club Punta del Este in conjunction with the Uruguayan Ministry of Tourism with support for the event being supported at the very highest official levels.
