V1D2

The V1D2 boat yard in Caen, France, is a specialist facility for the refit and preparation of short-handed offshore racing yachts. Owner, Marc Lefebvre, has over 20 years experience in project managing a variety of highly successful campaigns including race winners in the BOC Challenge, the Vendée Globe, the Route du Rhum and the Transat Jacques Vabre.

Created in 1998 and conveniently situated in Caen, Northern France, V1D2 has developed an enviable reputation for quality of workmanship, delivering on often tight deadlines and providing groundbreaking and successful solutions for the unique challenges of preparing a racing yacht that will be pushed hard around the planet. Indeed, the winner of the last Global Ocean Race, Beluga Racer, was prepared at V1D2.

The Global Ocean Race 2011-12 rules demand that every entrant must successfully complete a 180 degrees self-righting test as part of their qualification process. V1D2 are highly experienced in carrying out this particular exercise which involves some very specific preparation of the boat and a variety of logistics.

V1D2 have agreed to provide their services for GOR entrants to carry out this exacting test at an exceptional discount. “We are very grateful that V1D2 have agreed to support our race entrants in this way,” says Race Director, Josh Hall. “I have worked with Marco and his team for many years on many projects, my own included, and I know that they can provide our entrants with an absolutely top-line service for all their needs from the 180 test through to preparing in general for a highly competitive round the world race.”
